Authorities said four dams had collapsed – eight of which were located near the beaches of Sulawesi.

The death toll could rise as emergency services assess what is left on the island.
Mr Katoi told Reuters that his city had lost 50 to 60 percent of its population.

Mr Katoi said that the number of people who were on the island had risen to about 150.
